Despite legalization of same-sex “marriage” in several states, polls show fewer Americans approve

July 27, 2009

The most recent national poll from CBS/New York Times reports a significant decrease in public approval of same-sex “marriage”. This trend was confirmed by similar results just months earlier in USAToday/Gallup and the Pew Foundation polls conducted to gauge support for same-sex “marriage”. Together the polls demonstrate a marked decline in support despite the recent number of states enacting same-sex “marriage”.

The notion that same-sex “marriage” is “inevitable” does not reflect the opinion of the majority of American people. If anything, polling seems to reflect the public’s growing rejection of courts and legislatures acting alone in redefining marriage. Same-sex “marriage” has only been mandated in those states where judges and legislatures have acted in spite of the will of the people. Wherever a ballot referendum has been put before the people, the people chose to maintain marriage as the union of one man and one woman.

Pennsylvania for Marriage supports a ballot referendum allowing the citizens of the Commonwealth to determine the future of marriage. Two sessions of the Legislature are required to place an amendment on a ballot referendum. Only by popular vote will the definition of marriage truly reflect the will of the people of Pennsylvania.

I definitely believe that it is worth standing up for the idea that marriage is between a man and a woman. There are so many topics that we could discuss on why this is important such as:
What is the purpose of marriage?
How does marriage effect the lives of children?
Who does marriage effect the society as a whole?
    etc.

This is a big issue that is being challenged by a minority of people who just want to do what they want to do and force everyone else to conform to their lifestyle. We as American’s need to stand up for our beliefs.

It is very important that people stand up now and support traditional marriage and speak against the Employment Non Discrimination Act, which our Federal Government would like to sign into law. Senators Specter and Casey need to hear from people who disagree with this legislation.

Also, PA Senator John Eichelberger needs to be supported in every way that is possible. It is unfortunate that people who support traditional marriage are attacked and forced out of public office. In this way, same sex marriage has made inroads in many states and in the federal gov. without people even knowing it. Let us not allow that to happen in PA.
