The Cost of Speaking Your Beliefs

April 21, 2009

For simply stating her beliefs about marriage, tolerance is thrown out the window as a young woman becomes verbally attacked.

When asked at the Miss USA Beauty Pageant by judge Perez Hilton, an openly gay gossip blogger, whether she believed in same-sex marriage, Miss California, Carrie Prejean, said “We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite. And you know what, I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that’s how I was raised.”

Carrie Prejean stands behind her answer. She said what she believed and didn’t give the “politically correct” response just to help her win the crown. By stating her beliefs, a judge has not only disregarded tolerance and acceptance but verbally attacked her based on his diagreement with her belief.

After the contest, pageant judge Perez Hilton said Miss California’s Carrie Prejean gave the “worst answer in pageant history” and that she is a “dumb b****”. After an initial apology, Hilton says he takes it back laughing that instead of the ‘b-word’ he was really thinking the ‘c-word’.

Carrie Prejean responds to the judge’s comments:

Carrie Prejean answered respectfully that she disagreed with the legalization movement of same-sex marriage, but supported states’ rights to put the question up for a vote. As Miss California, she represents a state who voted twice in supprt of traditional marriage.

The language used by Perez Hilton paints the picture of those supporting same-sex marriage: Disagree with us and we’ll attack you.

  1. Dr Matthew Boland Says:

Had the ‘shoe been on the other foot’ and Carrie had supported the gay movement and then been attacked by a judge for her answer, he (the judge) would have been figuratively ‘tarred and feathered and run out of town’ Instead she is a victim of the hatred and bias by this gay judge who won’t so much as have his hands slapped. Likely he’ll keep his post as judge and nothing will come of the whole event other than Carrie being ridiculed.

  2. ervin manbark Says:

Perez Hilton is a hate crimes criminal and should be prosecuted. He should be eliminated from any present or future role as judge in any contests.

  3. Scott Says:

I have been saying for a long time now(years), that the gay agenda is not just about them getting married, it will become something you cannot speak about in public. They will want to get married in our conservative churches against our biblical beliefs and actually take away our freedom of speak, but who heck cares right?! As long as they get what they want. They will push and push legislation down everyone’s throats in order to do so just so they can say we are right and you are wrong about homosexuality. And that’s freedom!!??

  4. Jean reese Says:

We nne3d for Carrie Prejean’s in this country.

  5. Jean reese Says:

We need more brave Carrie Prejean’s in this country. We need to start taking a stand against the evil shoved at us.

  6. joe Says:

Perez is an idiot. Heasked for an opinion then blasted disrespected and insulted Ms Prejean. He is the one to apologize. In a world of political correctness and openess some dont have any tolerance for a different point of view
    oh well

  7. Cherie Says:

    Good for people to know.

  8. Ronald & Karen Smith Says:

Pageant judge Hilton should be publicly reprimanded and then barred from being a judge in any type of any future contest of any nature, due to his very obvious bias.
This is typical of those in the gay movement that want others to accept them but cannot accept others beliefs.

If a christian had made such a comment about a gay, there would have been “hell to pay”.

  9. Eugene Davis Jr. Says:

Where is all this wonderful tolerence the gay/lesbian people always demand? It would seem they look at tolerence as a one-way street. Very sad when a contestant in a pageant is villified for expressing an opinion when asked for it!

  10. R Trout Says:

Kudos to Carrie Prejean! She’s taking a lot of unnessary flack, but doing it so gracefully. Obviously, she’s in the majority in California!

  11. Carrie Prejean Vs Perez Says:

Didn’t know about it. Very nice information. Submitted this post to Google News Reader.

  12. Carrie Prejean Vs Perez Says:

I would love to write and say what a great job you did on this, as you have put a lot of work into it.

To find a woman of this character who will stand for Biblical values in today’s society is truly amazing. I am extremely proud that she had spoken and stood for her beliefs and continues to stand fast even after the competition while being pressured by the media. Carrie should be commended for her answer and her character. She is a fine example and role model to many people, male and female. I truly believe that God will bless her for standing by her convictions, just as he blessed Daniel, Shadrack, Meshack and Abediggo in the Old Testament. Also, I truly believe that her answer reflects the majority of the people in these United States. I would gladly stand next to Carrie and give the exact same answer for God and in light of my personal convictions based upon the Bible.

    GOD BLESS YOU CARRIE!!!!!

  14. Susan Knechtel Says:

God Bless (and He does) Carrie for speaking her heart. I wish and pray that more people could find their heart and speak it!

  15. Jarod Says:

OK people, lets remember this is Perez Hilton. He isn’t tolerant of anyone, even gay people! Read his online blogs and you will see how he criticizes everyone equally. This story is news only for what it is, a pseudo celebrity like Perez Hilton trying to get more famous by causing scandal. It has nothing to do with the larger movement of homosexuals working for equal rights.

  16. Carol D. Says:

This young woman gives me great hope. She is a fine example of standing for your beliefs and, as she so aptly put it, your God — no matter what the consequences. This had to be a major disappointment for her but, someday, she will be wearing a much more beautiful crown and hearing, “well done, good and faithful servant…” :)

  17. Ronald Hess Says:

God Bless You Carrie for speaking your Christian beliefs.
I wish more Christians would stand up and be counted. There are a lot of Christians out there sitting on the fence right now who are being politically correct and say give the Homosexuals the right to marriage. Let’s look at the vows they also want to change: This man and this woman brought together in Holy Matimony. Holy is the optimum word they don’t want to hear because it means Under God, in God’s Grace, Homosexuals don’t think marriage is a bond between them with God. Homosexuals want to demeanor marriage and make it a worldly joining of two people and leave God out of the bond between them. Just as our Law makers our doing with our country. Without God there is no peace, there is no Bond… Thru his blogs you can see his hostility to normalcy. What I don’t understand is why he was allowed to judge a beauty pageant with his hatred towards woman? I didn’t see any men for him in this competition. We christians believe that everyone was created in God’s own image but Satan has found a way…to change humans and their Free will to force them to sin.

  18. Velma L Says:

Carrie’s reply was a dose of hope in a dark world that says, “good is evil and evil is good”. She should be a role model for young and old alike, to take a stand for what is bibically correct instead of politically correct. My God’s blessings be on her life.

  19. Terry Stuart Says:

I am a Christian and feel that same sex marriage is wrong. When God made Adam and Eve in the Garden Adam replied, “This is bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh.” God took a rib out of Adam and made Eve. God’s will for them was that they become man and wife and that the woman should give birth to children and that they should multiply to cover the Earth. If God willed for a man and a man or a woman and a woman to be married, He would have done this, but that wasn’t His plan. Marriage is a holy ordinance that is blessed by God between a man and a wife. Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed by God because the people who lived in these cities had same sex marriages. The same thing will happen to our country if same sex marriage becomes a law of the land. Keep marriage between a man and a wife and blessings and prosperity will come to the United States.
