Most Vulnerable Citizens Are Children; Not LGBT Community

March 18, 2009

Not only would HB 300 put “sexual orientation”, “gender identity” and “gender expression” into the PA Human Relations Act, it would be put in your children’s textbooks.

HB 300 includes provisions that school curriculum be rewritten and changed to include teaching about acceptance and celebration of “sexual orientation and gender identity and expression.”

Including these classes in the Human Relations Act for PA is bad public policy because it is bad for children and families (see talking points and previous blog entry for more reasons).

Speaking out on HB 300, Stephen Glassman (Chairman of the PA Human Relations Commission) said, “Passing this bill would serve as a timely illustration of our commitment to protecting Pennsylvania’s most vulnerable citizens and ensuring equal opportunity for all.”

I would argue that the most vulnerable citizens in Pennsylvania, or anywhere in this country and around the world, are not the LGBT community.

“Children are the most vulnerable citizens in any society and the greatest of treasures.” – Nelson Mandela

Kids in Pennsylvania are in need of the greatest protection and any law that threatens a child’s well-being, such as HB 300, should be prevented.
